Signs of Depression

Read the Signs!

Major depressive syndrome is characterized by a deeply despondent or sad mood and pervasive loss of pleasure.

  • Changes in your appetite and weight (e.g., either a poor appetite and weight loss or increased appetite and weight gain)
  • Loss of energy
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Changes in your sleep pattern (e.g., sleeping too much or sleeping poorly)
  • Slowed movement, restlessness, agitation and jumpiness
  • Anxiety, helplessness, despair
  • Loss of interest in usual activities
  • Reduced sex drive
  • Slowed, confused thinking, inability to concentrate
  • Unusual indecisiveness
  • Self-reproach, feelings of worthlessness
  • Inappropriate guilt
  • Crying spells, recurrent brooding, suicidal thoughts

If you experience 4 or more symptoms, most days, for a minimum of 2 weeks you may be depressed. Please, see your doctor and tell him/her your symptoms.
